Who Why How   Brief Overview   Weekly Summary   Daily Summary   Read Journal   Tuesday 5/30/06 - Monday 6-12 -- 57-70 Days Post Surgery I have finally continued to progress more consistently. The first break through was 2 weeks ago when I was able to identify and describe the constricting pain circumscribing deep around the hip. Megan was then able to diagnose adhesions in the hip capsule and work to break them up. Immediately I was able to move without sharp pain in the hip capsule. The second break through came last week when, at another session, Megan realized I wasn't using a particular muscle in my butt and overcompensating by using my hip abductors. She reintroduce me to that muscle and has given me exercises to strengthen it. It felt like learning to wiggle my ears. Until I found the muscle that wiggled my ears and could move it independently I had no knowledge of it and it never was used. Apparently, when my hip started bothering me a year ago I compansated by changing my gait and stopped using the muscles that caused pain in the hip. Megan has been re-educating those muscles and me. I walked a mile the other day with a friend and was able to lengthen my stride back to normal. Muscles are strengthening and getting tired rather than pain in the capsule stopping me from strengthening my muscles. I gave my cane to Megan to use with other patients who might not understand the value of using a cane. Sometimes trying or seeing something is a better educator than just telling it. It was true for me. My sleep patterns have returned to normal and most of the time I don't have to take ibuprophen in the middle of the night. I've stopped taking it when I first go to bed. I leave for Japan on Wednesday to visit my grandkids for 2 months. I'll write in my journal but not a predictably. |
