Monday 4/10/06 - 7 Days Post Surgery

7am: I woke up with a Percocet headache. Also, I had more discomfort and aching last night than any previous night. I had taken 2 Tylenol PM before I went to bed and slept fine for 2 hours. I sat at the computer for 30 minutes to entertain myself and allow the discomfort, due to my position when sleeping, to subside.  I then slept for 1 more hour.

Close to 4 hours after I had originally taken 2 Tylenol PM, I took 1 Percocet. I again slept for 2 hours before I woke with discomfort in my entire hip area, and the low grade Percocet headache. I certainly didn't like that. And to make matters worse, from my perspective, I was too foggy to entertain myself on the computer. then took 2 more for the discomfort. When I awoke 2.

Ice in a zip lock bag and a bag of frozen peas were  the solution. Initially I laid the bag of ice on my incision and the bag of peas on my ankle-lower calf area. After 10 minutes I changed the position of the bags and then put them in a bowl by the bed and fell asleep for 2 more hours, changed my position and slept for another hour and a half.

Pre-surgery I walked with an abnormal gait and my foot pointed out a little to reduce the pain in my hip. Turning my foot back forward is stressing the ankle and lower calf area and it squawked last night. I can still feel it this morning, but I only notice it when I turn my focus in that direction.

I have been awake and sitting at the computer for 15 minutes. My Percocet headache has gone away. The same thing happens in the middle of the night. When I wake up with a headache after taking Percocet, the headache subsides after 15 minutes of sitting at the computer.

I did my exercises, but other than that I was very 'low key' today. I think I over did it yesterday and my body needs a rest. I'm in a little cocoon of comfort when I sit here and work on setting up these web pages. I focus, problem solve, analyze and try out various ideas. Any pain drifts off into oblivion and I'm not tempted to over tax my surgery site.

We went out tonight and met another couple at the Arizona Inn. It was splendid. I have spent so much time indoors, in my house,  these last months. The pain would skyrocket and disturb my sleep whenever I attempted more than minimal walking. For me, everything is new and exciting.
