Friday 4/7/06 - 4 Days Post Surgery

Chuck and I are getting even better at putting on  Ted Hose. No biggest problems to report today. Some advice though. Shower before you put on your Ted Hose so you don't have to take them off and put them on a second time. That is still my least favorite time of the day.

Again, I woke in the small hours of the morning and needed 1 Percocet for the pain so I could fall back to sleep. During the day I take 1 or 2 Tylenol once a day if pain gets great enough to distract me. Usually though, if I'm reading or on the Internet I never think about it.

All my exercises were easier to do today.

I never used my walker around the house. When I thought of it, it was always in another room. I didn't need it. I stood straight, walked heal to toe, and pointed my foot and knee forward.  If I had been sitting a while and was stiff AGAIN, I did my standing exercises before I started walking so I would be more flexible and have less pain.

In the early afternoon Chuck and I walked again around the condo. He carried my walker and I didn't use it.

Later in the afternoon I wanted to walk again, but Chuck was interested in napping. I left without my walker and strolled  through the condo community on my regular loop, returning back to my condo after 75 yards. I felt fine, better than I had when I started. So I walked the loop again, saying to myself, heal...toe...knee and foot straight...posture straight.... over and over so I would pay attention to my form and improve my gait. When I returned to my condo a 2nd time, I felt no more fatigued and I was not straining or in too much pain to maintain my gait. So I headed out for a third loop. I felt no worse than  when I finished the 2nd loop. In fact I felt more flexible and in less pain. I decided not to push it and went upstairs to do something non physical.

It's now 9:35pm and I'm still feeling great. Yes I have some aching in my surgery area as I sit here. But on a scale of 1-10 it's a 0 when I'm writing and not thinking about it and a 1-2 when I focus on it. It's amazing. I've had no pain medication for well over 6 hours. I do though take Celebrex daily for inflammation so that does help to reduce the pain.

I have to say that I was hoping to be at this point after 2 weeks. I would have considered that SUCCESS. This is amazing. I believe that my progress is the direct result of the technique that Dr Cohen uses.
