Sunday 5/7/06 - 34 Days Post Surgery

7am: My incision is dry and starting to itch. That's a good sign. I think it is starting to heal although the itching is rather distracting. But I'll take this any day over the abscess.

I'm feeling tight but stretching helps. I seem to be on a plateau regarding my recovery. When I think logically about it, I realize that my bone will take 6 weeks or more to heal. If the outer incision isn't healed, the internal incisions probably aren't totally healed either. All my ligaments and tendons will take time to recover after being stretched.

11am: I just returned from walking 400 yards around the condo complex without my cane. I'm still somewhat stiff but my leg and hip don't fatigue as quickly as a week or two ago. However I realize my perception of how I'm doing is affected by how well I expect myself to do. Let me explain. I expected to have less discomfort and stiffness at 34 days than I actually have. So my perception is that the discomfort has increased. In the beginning I expected to have more pain and was pleased that I had less than I expected. This fact has made it difficult to report on pain and stiffness objectively. What I write is colored by both my expectations and where I think that I am in relation to those expectations.

This is all very interesting to me.

10pm: I've had another good but low key day. I'm ready for sleep.
