Sunday 4/16/06 - 13 Days Post Surgery

7am: Night time is falling onto a routine. I take 2 Tylenol PM before I go to bed and then sleep 4 hours. I wake up tight and in pain. I alleviate this by changing positions, stretching, sitting up, walking, taking 1 Percocet and then sleeping another 3-4 hours. I repeat the same process if I want to sleep longer.

If I don't take a Percocet, I can't get the pain to subside enough so I can fall back asleep. I experience my longest lasting pain at night. During the day I can move, sit, stretch, exercise or walk to reduce the pain. I generally don't feel the need to take any pain killers during the day.

After the first week of significant progress each day, progress now is on a smaller scale. I continue to do my exercises at half the previous number of repetitions and  amount of flexibility so that my muscles and ligaments can recover from the work I did a few days ago.

I'm feeling good and my spirits are high, however I'd like to be out bicycling today. I'll write more later

3pm: Megan suggested using a cane so that I could reduce the weight and pain in my surgery leg and thus maintain a more normal gait. I suggested using a walking stick that I had and she agreed. The walking stick is not allowing me to take enough of the weight off and maintain a more normal gait. I will get a cane tomorrow.

10pm. I just wasted 2 hours watching a worthless movie. In the evening my leg is fatigued and I need to relax more. I would have turned the movie off earlier if I new the whole thing was going to be bad. I kept thinking that it would get better and come together in an interesting ending. It didn't.

I'm sleepy and my left leg and hip are fatigued. I'm going to take my routine 2 Tylenol PM and go to bed. Good night.
