Friday 4/14/06 - 11 Days Post Surgery

7am: I slept the best that I have since the surgery. After taking two Tylenol PM I slept 4 hours. I then took 1 Percocet after stretching and walking. I slept another 2 hours at which time I stretched, walked and changed positions again. That got me 2 more hours of sleep. I'm pleased.


I timed it this morning. In order to work off the aches and pains after sleeping it took 4 minutes. Again, there are sharp pains in my ankle, knee, outer thigh and throughout the surgery area. They subside and some of them go away with massaging, stretching, walking and then sitting.


5pm: Megan was here for almost 2 hours. She massaged the scar tissue and areas that were tight, to the point pain. Then we spent time identifying why I was having sharp pain through a number of my motions.


The end result is that, (1st) because  I'm so flexible, I inadvertently torque more than just the isolated muscle I'm trying to tighten and stretch. (2nd), there are a couple of exercises I'm doing slightly incorrect. This also torques other joints and tightens other muscles and ligaments which then causes pain. (3rd)  Even though I think that I'm not, 'over doing' my exercises, I'm doing them just past the point of muscle fatigue in each area. Other muscles then compensate.


Until my next appointment I'm to do half the number of repetitions of each exercise at about 80% of full flexibility to give everything a rest. I'm also going to use a cane or walking stick for a while so that I can continue to retrain my gait without fatiguing the muscles and ligaments in my ankle and lower calf.


7pm: I'm going to bed. I'm very tired.
