Minimally Invasive Hip Replacement (April 2006)Overview... also use the Section Guide on the left rail to navigateWho Why How   Brief Overview   Weekly Summary   Daily Summary   Read Journal   Hello, my name is Cheryl and in August 2005 I was 55 years old. Prior to that time I led an active lifestyle. I enjoyed walking, hiking and bicycling. That August I noticed pain in my groin. I thought it would heal and go away. In the mean time I compensated by changing my gait to ease the pain. When the pain didn't subside I saw my primary care physician and after some x-rays he diagnosed me with arthritis. By October I was in enough pain that I could barely walk and my sleep was significantly disrupted. I was sent to an Orthopedist who told me the only treatment that would help the situation was 'Total Hip Replacement. Needless to say I was shocked. I obtained a second opinion with a doctor who concurred that a Total Hip Replacement was my only alternative other than Total Inactivity. I then researched Total Hip Replacement options and recovery prognosis. That is when I learned about Minimally Invasive Surgery techniques. It took several months to schedule the surgery but now, April 22nd 2006, I am 3 weeks post surgery. I am very pleased with the results. I am able to be more active now than at any time since August 2005. Considering the magnitude of the procedure, the pain has not been significant and and has been manageable. If I develop the same problems with my right hip, I wouldn't hesitate to have the same procedure by the same doctor. Note: I will update and complete this Overview as I complete the Journals. |
