Asia-Thailand, Cambodia and Viet Nam (Jan-Mar 2005)Along the Highway - Viet Namphotolog: 1 of 15 [ <Chaam Ruins| next> ]Throughout Viet Nam, our choice of transportation from once city to the next, northward, was by bus as the local people would do. I enjoy watching the scenery and the people in their everyday lives through the window as we pass by. When I have traveled by airplane from one city to another within a country I seem to lose perspective of of the geography. Traveling by bus provides continuity. Today we are the only foreigners on a bus carrying students going home for Tet. After a half an hour of observing us, one of the more self assured students started practicing his English conversation skills with us. Then others joined in, leaning over the seats, asking us questions and answering our questions to them. A university professor is on the bus also, going home for the holidays. He teaches Russian, which for many years, since the American War, has been the 2nd language of choice for the Viet Nam people. |
