Canyonlands NP preserves a wilderness of rock at the heart of the Colorado Plateau. Water and gravity have been the prime architects of this land, cutting flat layers of sedimentary rock into hundreds of canyons, mesas, buttes, fins, arches and spires. Right through the middle of this national park are two canyons carved by the Green and Colorado Rivers which separates this national park into three distinct districts. The Maze District is west of the Green River. The Island in the Sky District is between the Green and Colorado Rivers. The Needles District is east of the Colorado River. There are no bridges crossing these rivers within the park.

We camped at Squaw Flat in the Needles District and Willow Flat in the Island in the Sky District. From there we hiked as many trails as time permitted until the weather changed in late October and it started snowing. It snowed all night and into the next day. There appeared no end in sight so we headed home, back to Tucson.
