Backpacking in the Monte Verde Cloud Forest
Ferns towered over our heads. It reminded me of Hawaii, but it was more intense. I had expected to see exotic green frogs or colorful quetzals. We didn't see either however there were many strange animal sounds in the night. During the backpack in the rainforest we started talking about our next destination. Vulcan Arenal which has a green lake deep in its crater appealed to both of us. From there we figured that we could continue over secondary roads to Lake Nicaragua. When we were ready to leave that shore we could then take a boat 6 hours north to the shores of Granada. This time our adventurous spirit was not appeased. A tropical storm was moving in and the local people said that it was certain that Vulcan Arenal would be obscured by the clouds and rain. In addition to that, the storm would force us to stay in a transit town that was short on resources and interest to us. Guatemala was drawing our thoughts into her spell. Days were one of our limited resource and we were unwilling to dole out to destinations that had little appeal. We decided that we would travel the most direct route to Granada Nicaragua and decide what to see when we arrived there. Our final thoughts were that we would come back and spend 2-3 months in just Costa Rica and Panama. Costa Rica photolog: 4 of 4 [ <prev| to Nicaragua>] |
