The group of islands known as Archipelago Bocas del Toro (mouths of the bull) is just off shore in the Caribbean at the far north western corner of Panama. While I was researching where to go and what to see in Central America every photo or word about Bocas del Toro made me smile. They have enough traveler amenities without being over touristy. To get here from Boquete, Panama we caught the 'school' bus back to the Pan American Hwy, a second bus eastward to David, another bus over the backbone of mountains and down to Almirante on the Caribbean coast and finally a boat out to Isla Colon in the archipelago. Again it took most of a day, but the views were captivating. When we arrived in the late afternoon we found a suitable hotel room, which coincidently was right on the water, and then departed on an exploratory walk of the town. East down the unpaved street was a small Indian restaurant with outdoor seating, then a yard filled with bicycles, snorkels and kayaks for rent and finally a small but very adequate food market. We bought fruit at the market, rented bicycles for the next day and then had a pleasant Indian meal and watched the local families socialize in the street.
