Directions at Every Corner

On May 1st we left San Sebastian and the coast to cycle across France from Bordeaux, along the Loire River, across to the Meuse River to Namur Belgium. We chose not to cycle along the narrow roads over the Pyrenees Mountains so we took the train from San Sebastian Spain to Bordeaux France.

Once we started cycling we noticed signs at every corner. The signs correspond very nicely to the road numbers. These signs have a picturesque stone mansion as their back drop. It appears that the road has grown up around the mansion. I was to learn over the next few days that this is very common.
