Lisbon Sidewalks

Portugal has these incredible wide tiled sidewalks! The pattern is the same block after block throughout the downtown.

I thought the Portuguese language was similar to Spanish. I assumed that by learning Spanish I would be able to communicate with people in Portugal. I was wrong. I do not understand them easily and similarly, they do not understand me! To me, Portuguese sounds more like Russian than Spanish.
