I was so excited planning and embarking on this trip. For years I had wanted to see the Tetons again and to travel as far as Glacier, Banff and Jasper National Parks.

But Chuck and I worked full time and the vacation time we had was one and two weeks long. We always chose another place to travel and explore that was easier to get to which afforded us more time hiking and bicycling.

The plan was to start in the Colorado Rockies and go north from there. In the summer of 2003 there were immense wild fires in the Rockies. Many areas were closes and those that weren't closed were cloaked in a cloudy haze of ash and smoke.

We drove through and then continued north.
