Map of Bicycle Route from Florida to Niagara Falls

Cycling is such a freeing feeling.

Our initial idea was to cycle for about 2 months starting somewhere along the A1A in Florida then traveling north and choosing our route and stops along the way as the wind and our focus changed.

There were 3 items that we needed to nail down. First we needed a starting point and airline tickets. Second we needed a some one to ship our bicycles to. Third we needed to identify a city to fly home from and airline tickets from there.

We decided to fly into Ft Lauderdale Florida at the end of March and fly out of Cleveland, Ohio the end of May. We planned to  in Cleveland a few days before our flight out to visit with Chuck's Aunt Ann. After the air travel was booked we communicated with people on the the Warm Showers List (WSL) to find someone who would receive our shipped bicycles and provide us with our first nights accommodations. Dale Lally responded and was most cordial and informative.

We planned to adapt our route and cycle where we wanted for as long as we wanted while camping and pitching a tent most nights. We thought that most of our food would be purchased at local grocery stores and markets and then eaten during stops and breaks during the day. Probably a main midday meal would be eaten at a restaurant. We brought our backpacking stove to head water for hot cocoa, coffee and soup.

Our contingency plan, incase we were not able to cycle to Cleveland or incase we decided that another direction was more interesting, was to take a train from where we ended up to Cleveland. Trains seem to be everywhere on the east coast.

Very early during these travels I spied Niagara Falls on the map and decided it would make a good destination. I had never been there. These pages are the photo  logs of that cycling journey.
