A Lock On the C & O Canal

Day 29 - 55mi - Near Harpers Ferry

The C & O Canal Trail was a delightful find. It is hard packed but not paved. I was unsure if my 1 inch tires would cause me problems but they didn't.

It is the historic Chesapeake and Ohio Canal Tow Path. In it's day pack animals towed barges laden with goods up the canal that runs parallel to the Potomac River.

It is very easy to follow. One can't get lost. There are small towns all along on both sides of the Potomac River.
