In Anacortes, at the marina parking lot we packed up to bicycle the San Juan Islands, Washington and the Gulf Islands, Canada for several weeks. Pat Fives, who lives on his 35' Tartan (sailing boat) invited us for dinner. the marina was clean, safe and friendly. The plan was to take the ferry to Lopez Island which we would use as a 'base camp' while we toured the other San Juan Islands. Then we would travel on and cross the international border about the 3rd week in September.

The cycling was great as was the bakeries, beaches and berries. Each day we traveled to a different island and cycled for the day, stopping to pick berries and stopping at a restaurant when we were hungry for more than berries.

Life was perfect except for the 5' black slugs!  When they curl up they look like prunes! The cost of the ferry was free once one ferried from the mainland to any island. The ferries traveled all day long and into the evening past the time that I wanted to be cycling.
