Hmong Tribe House
Once in Chaing Mai we talked with our guest house hosts about a multi-day trek in the hill tribe country. Groups leave every day and they helped us schedule with a group that left the next day. We were a mixed group, with people from U.S., Canada, Scotland, Sweden, Denmark, England and Australia. There are many different tribes, each with their own customs and beliefs. This is the Hwong tribe. Here, like most tribal villages, there is no indoor plumbing or electricity. Some of the hill tribes continue to grow and smoke opium as a part of their spiritual beliefs. There are tribes that marry and have children within their own tribe which has resulted in people with distinctive physical features such as very wide feet or people of very short stature. |
